Office of the General Counsel

The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for providing effective and timely legal advice and counsel to the State Courts Administrator, Florida’s appellate and trial court administrators, district court marshals, and the Florida Supreme Court on all matters regarding the administration of the state courts system.  The office also provides legal assistance to general counsel offices for the trial court circuits in the state. The office routinely handles matters relating to state court administration, statutory interpretation, rulemaking (including drafting Rule Petitions), drafting Administrative Orders, public records, ethics, legislative analysis, personnel matters, procurement, and public contract law. The office provides legal assistance and support to the Trial Court Budget Commission, Florida Courts Technology Commission, Criminal Court Steering Committee, Committee on Standard Jury Instructions in Criminal Cases, Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee, and the Court Interpreter Certification Board.
